One of the ways you can ruin that summer glow is with an acne outbreak. I decided to write some tips and tricks to acne treatment and prevention. If you do find yourself with a break out not to fear! You can opt for a home remedy or come see me, a professional, to treat your tortured skin!

Acne is most common in adolescents due to raging hormones and improper skin care, but it can and does impact many adults, approximately 50 million annually. It is the most common skin condition, but the great news is there are easy, non-invasive treatments available! Whether you are dealing with blackheads, whiteheads or more severe cystic acne there is treatment and prevention!

Most remedies are not overnight or instantaneous, but with time and consistent effort you can hack these pesky breakouts and restore your pristine complexion! So let’s dive in and talk about ways to treat those red bumps that can not only be an eyesore, but also very painful!

If you find yourself with a deep painful blemish, here are some tips to treat the area:

  1. Wash your skin and make sure it is clean before treating it. You will want to use a mild cleanser and don’t rub too hard, be gentle to your skin especially in the affected area.
  2. Apply an ice pack or ice cube to reduce pain & swelling. When you notice your blemish, either wrap an ice cube in a paper towel or use an ice pack and make sure it’s on the affected area for approximately 5 to 10 minutes. Repeat two more times, with 10-minute breaks.
  3. Apply a product that contains benzoyl peroxide to the area. I can help you find the best product for your skin complexion to ensure you are getting the best treatment with your other skin goals in mind.
  4. Use a warm compress as soon as a whitehead begins to form. Soak a clean washcloth in hot water (make sure the water isn’t too hot to avoid a burn). Apply the compress to the pimple for approximately 15 minutes. Repeat this three-four times daily, until the blemish releases its pus and starts to heal.
  5. Do not pop or pick at the blemish. This can cause acne scaring and can create age spots in the future.
  6. I strongly advise against homemade treatments from the internet. There are many popular DIYs for acne; however, they can have long term negative effects on your skin. Something can be a natural ingredient and good for your skin, but mixed with other ingredients could become harmful.
  7. Make an appointment to prevent breakouts in the future. Our acne treatment is our most popular treatment, and we work hard to not only heal your already damaged skin, but put you on a regimen and use products that will be preventative for future issues.

Most acne can be treated and have amazing results with consistent treatment in about 6 weeks, but it is important to continue treatments for preventative measures. Acne treatment is a long term solution, so be prepared for follow up and understand you are not in this alone. I am here to walk you through how to best care for your skin, so you have less work to do in the future!
